There were fun topics for Grade 1 students this month. One was “Kotoba o tanoshimou”, we enjoyed a tongue twister. The other one was “Kore wa nanndeshou”, thinking a quiz with a proper description.
The Garde 1 students read a story “Doubutsu no akacyan”, comparing a lion’s baby and zebra’s baby. They were interested in a baby of animal.
We also read “Datte Datteno obaasan” enjoyed the story of grandmother who challenged various things with a cat.
The last topic of Grade 1 was “Iikoto ippai ichinennsei”. We looked back at our school days of Grade 1 and wrote down our memorable thing. They tried to work hard to write sentences. They will take it home, please enjoy reading their work.

I would like to further to complete the kokugo curriculum steadily.

                      Ms. Hayashi

After Golden Week, Grade 1 students learned how to write a letter at the topic “Tegami de shiraseyou”. And they wrote a letter to their family. It was a good timing to “Mothers Day” . I hope you enjoyed reading their letter.
And then, they read the story “Mono no namae” and learned the names of groups (generic concept, more specific concept). This topic made them to increase their vocabulary.
They also practiced Katakana focused on the letters looks similar at the unit of “Katakana no katachi”. Several students are still not sure to remember katakana. I hope they will continue to persevere with practice.
Then they are reading a story called “Tanuki no itogutruma”. We are thinking “okamisan” and “tanuki” ‘s feeling to reading their comprehension. They like reading the part of the sound of the spinning wheel “キーカラカラ キークルクル”.
About kanji practice, they worked hard on it, try to get high score at the kanji test. Please check again; on Monday they have a kanji test and before the test, on Friday they have homework for practice.
Also they have a reading homework depends on the topic. Please encourage them to do it.
I always appreciate your support.

First, the students had a chance to read old tale from all over the world at the topic “Mukashibanashi ga ippai”. I hope they have a chance to read Japanese books during GW.
Next topic was “Tomodachi ni kiitemiyou”. They asked their classmate the pleasant thing each other. They learned saying “そうです” when they speak what they heard.
They also learned how to say months, dates and the days of the week at the topic“Hiduke to youbi”. It is a little difficult for them, because there are several special readings and they are not used to say them. So they repeated to read them, worked hard to say them correcrtly.
Next, they read a story “Zuutto zutto daisukidayo” which is taken from a famous book “I’ll always love you” by Hans Wilhelm. It’s a sad story but a good story. They wrote their favorite part of that story on their notebook.
Also, they enjoyed reading a poem “Tentoumushi”.
Next topic is “Mono no namae”. After GW, they will learn the names of groups (generic concept, more specific concept).

                                                                            Ms. Hayashi

This month, The Grade 1 students read the story “Umi no kakurenbo” and read each sentences carefully and understood where is a creature in the sea. There are some kanji in that story, then they started learning kanji. They are really excited getting Kanji skill book. They are focused on writing kanji with pay attention in detail, for example はね、はらい、とめ. Also they are practicing them in right stroke order to write it neatly. As you know, we have a kanji test every Monday! Every students is making a great effort to practice kanji and many students has been got a perfect score at the kanji test so far!!
They also learned the kanji for numbers at the topic of“Kazu to kanji”. They also learned how to count in Japanese. The way of counting things in Japanese is different depending on the things being counted like papers (-まい), cars (-だい), small animals (- ひき/びき/ぴき), and long objects (-ほん/ぼん/ぽん). It is a little hard for them to use these words correctly, so please keep practicing it when you have a chance.
And then they were happy to get a new Japanese Kokugo textbook (the second volume).
They are reading the story “Kujiragumo”. Their reading loud voice is sounding through the classroom, especially their favorite phrase「天までとどけ、一、二、三!」(describing the children jumped to the sky). They had reading homework for this story. I thank you for encouraging them to finish it.
